Future Important Dates

Special points of interest:

·       2008-09 Small School NTL Co-Champs.

·       17 wins - Most Dual meet wins in Sayre School History.

·       Are we willing to pay the price to top this year’s accomplishments?

There have been several things happening in the world of Sayre Wrestling.  The 1st thing to mention is the Jarvis Dual meet tournament has been set for December 19, 2009.  Most of the teams will be returning from last year schedule but because of the first competition schedule date was push back one week, we had to set our date back one week as well.  This was a conflict with a two of last year’s teams such as Coudersport & last year champs Southern Columbia.  They have been replaced with local team Spencer Van Etten and Scranton High School.   The tournament will run the same way it was last year with two different pools and the cross-bracketing with each team wrestling five matches.  Let’s improve our second place finish from last year with 1st place.  The kids are working hard this offseason to improve themselves.   Second item is that the club has been form and this is a very positive thing for all Sayre Wrestling.  The named of the club is the “Sayre Wrestling Club” with Eric Keir being named the president, Vice President is Bill Buck, Secretary is Michelle Buck and our Treasury is Pearl Simonis.   Their first fund raiser was a success!  We had a chicken BBQ that was started by Michelle Licata and then the club pushed it into being a huge start.   Great job and this money will be put forward for the wrestlers to attend wrestling team camp.  We are going to the Gene Mills Pin to Win trained on July 19, 2009.  The idea for the money to be placed into each wrestler’s camp funds to help cut down on the parent’s pocketbooks.   The money will be divided among the wrestlers that are going.  It looks like there are 10 wrestlers wanting to attend camp.

As the coaching staff reviewed last year, we basically focus our attention on building up their strength and this did show this year.  As this year progressed we felt that that there were times that our wrestlers were inexperience because of the lack of mat time.  So as a coaching staff we are splitting up our time.  Assistant Coach Dale Jarvis will be focusing on technique and basic mat time twice a week.  Head Coach Glenn Jarvis & Jr. High Coach Mark Twigg will OFFSEASON WORKOUT SCHEDULE be focusing on the strength conditioning.  I will also be working with wrestlers on an individual bases with technique.   We are looking at taking the varsity wrestlers to a wrestling camp in the summer.

We do realize that our wrestlers do have other activities.  We are providing the times that the coaching staff will be available for our wrestlers to improve for their future.

REDSKINS WRESLING CLUB NEWS   The club was formed and we have had three successful fundraiser this spring & summer.  The first one as mention was the 1st chicken BBQ, second one was the Kid’s night out and the last fundraiser was another Chicken BBQ.  Our goal was to earn enough money to send any many wrestlers to camp.  We were able togive $300.00 to 10 wrestlers to go to camp.  I also bought each of these wrestlers a Sayre Wrestling tee-shirt & Sayre wrestling shorts to look like a team as they represent our community.  The cost of camp was $345.00 because we were able to get the team rate of 8 or more wrestlers.  I can say enough about the new wrestling club and the people, wrestlers that worked hard on all three events.  It will show in the winter season.  We are looking at some more fundraisers this fall.  The two events are a possible golf tourney and another Kid’s night out.  Our goal is to get wrestling shoes for each Jr. High & Varsity wrestler this year so they match as a team.

CAMP UPDATE very well.  If my conversation with Jacob Gowan, he said it the best.  “Coach, I won a few matches but I was not blow out in any of my matches, I was in the match up until the end which is a huge improvement for me”.
To me, it was I most impressed with such a short amount of time in raising that money for this kids to go to camp.  The hard work should pay off but there is still some summer and the fall to go until the start of the season.  Great Job by all the of the people whom help send this wrestlers to camp and I hope this continues our winning ways in the future of Sayre Wrestling.

where nine more wrestlers attend.   This camp also had great people to learn from as well.  This camp was more about wrestling live matches but showed great technique too.  For the most part the kids were learning and obtaining good quality mat time which something you can not get in a practice room.  Our goal was not to go down to camp and win every match but to put some of the new moves into action.  The kids did bond I was able to visit Zach Keir one full day at the Iowa Wrestling Camp that was held in Binghamton.  I saw some very good technique from some of the highest people in the USA wrestling world such as Tom Brands & Steve Macco.   I believe that this camp was great for Zach because he was able to learn from some of the best and he did some live wrestling that was helpful for him.  Both Dale & I travel down to the Gene Mills Pin to Win camp Future Important Dates
